On February 22, 2013, SSDA presented a refresher webinar on March 15th layoff notice procedures to help Superintendents and Governing Board Presidents ensure that they went through all of the required steps to protect themselves and their districts; it was designed as a double check if you have to adopt March 15 layoff notices..
We are now offering you the PowerPoint presentation that accompanied the webinar for anyone who happened to miss this important webinar. Too often a small error or oversight is used to overturn a school district's needed reduction in staff. This results in costs the district cannot afford. The layoff process has numerous requirements. Even with the passage of Proposition 30 and the Governor's proposed budget including new money for public schools, many districts still will be facing the necessity to cut personnel costs to replace lost revenue from declining enrollment, increased costs for step and column, loss of furlough-day savings, and other fiscal challenges.
