SSDA and WGU Program Successfully Addresses Teacher Shortage in Small and Rural School Districts
The Small School Districts' Association (SSDA) is pleased to report the successful outcome of its partnership with Western Governors University (WGU), aimed at addressing the critical teacher shortage in small and rural school districts. Through the WGU/CA HRTP grant program, 20 employees from SSDA member districts and County Offices of Education (COEs) have completed their enrollment and are well on their way to earning their California teaching credentials.
This initiative was designed to create a strong pipeline of qualified teachers dedicated to serving small and rural communities, which often face significant challenges in recruiting and retaining educators. The program's success is demonstrated by its full funding of participants to meet the minimum requirements necessary for obtaining their teaching credentials.
Participants from districts such as Anderson Valley Unified School District, Arcata Elementary School District, Fresno COE, and others have shown exceptional commitment to advancing their education and enhancing their skills. Their dedication to achieving these credentials underscores their commitment to delivering quality education in their respective districts.
SSDA congratulates all the participants on their achievements and wishes them continued success in their educational pursuits. We also extend our deep gratitude to Western Governors University for their unwavering support and collaboration. This partnership is a testament to the impact that can be achieved through collective effort, paving the way for meaningful opportunities and lasting improvements in the future of small school districts.
